Learn to do self and assisted rescues in a kayak. When you or a friend capsize, this will give you the knowledge and practice to do a safe recovery. Taught in a pool with kayaks. This class includes cold drinks and snacks. Wear a bathing suit and bring a towel and your PFD. Included are techniques for doing a wet exit, two different rescues and use of paddle floats.

These workshops can vary in content from diving to starts and turns.... to strokes. Normally they are organised for school holidays as one off sessions and are open to any competitive swimmer.

Boating Rentals

This class is designed for children who have completed Sharks and can swim 25 yards of front crawl with rhythmic breathing and swim 10-15 yards on their backs. Skills taught at this level include improving front crawl and backstroke, learning the elementary backstroke, treading water, introduction to breaststroke and diving, and water safety skills. To complete this class a student must be able to swim 50 yards of continual front crawl with rhythmic breathing to the side and swim 25 yards each of back crawl and elementary backstroke. Students must also be comfortable in deep water and be able to tread water for up to 30 seconds.

This class is designed for children who can swim 50 yards (2 lengths) of front crawl with rhythmic breathing to the side. Students must be able to swim back crawl and elementary backstroke. Swimmers must be able to swim in deep water without assistance. Skills taught at this level include: refining the front and back crawl, improving the breaststroke, introduction to sidestroke, and increased endurance. To complete this class a student must be able to swim 100 yards continuously using the following strokes - 50 yards of front crawl, 25 yards of back crawl and 25 yards of breaststroke. This class is designed to improve these strokes and prepare students for swim team participation. This class will introduce butterfly, surface dives and springboard diving.

Semi-Private lessons offer one-on-two instruction for swimmers similar in age and swimming ability. Client is responsible for filling both participate spots. Cost:$40

Our Intro to Kayaking course is the perfect first step for anyone who fancies learning to kayak. We have all the coaching and equipment you will need. This price includes a years membership with Monklands Canoe Club. Classes and assessment last from 7pm til 9pm, but do try and get here early if you can – the less time you spend getting changed and sorting a boat out, the more time you have on the water. Don’t worry too much about clothing – if you’ve got a wetsuit, that’s great, but in all honesty, just wear something you’re comfortable in that you don’t mind getting wet – shorts, t-shirt, fleece, trainers. Jeans not a great idea, they’re horrible wet. DO bring a towel and a change of clothes!
