About the company

The word Forte (pronounced fôr-tā) means "strong."We strive to be strong of heart, strong of spirit, and strong of mind.We are a community for fencers ages 8 to 80. Our coaches come from a variety of life and fencing experiences. We started Forte as a community outreach program primarily for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders, and are now conveniently located to many local fencers.We invite all levels to learn the Olympic sport of fencing.We do not discriminate against age or athletic ability.

Coach Lisa Campi-Sapery

With over 30 years of fencing experience, she has the unique distinction of being a national-level fencer, coach, referee, and bout committee member. After retiring from World Cup competition, Coach Lisa earned top officiating classifications in all three weapons. She is an international referee, supervises and mentors young referees in all three weapons. Coach Lisa is a certified Prevôt d’Epée and Moniteur d’Armes from the USFCA. In addition to coaching at the club, Coach Lisa will apply her Masters Degree in Exercise Physiology, from University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, to assisting fencers in understanding healthy nutrition and hydration in both training and competition, proper training methods, and safe cross-training. She is the Co-Head Coach at Morris Hill High School. The program has achieved successes such as NJAC Conference Champions 2014 and 2015, Morris County Girls Team Champions, Morris County Girls Individuals Champions in all 3 disciplines, Morris County Girls Sabre and Epee Squad Champions, Morris County Boys Foil Individual Champion, District Individual Girls Sabre Champion 2013 and 2014, and District Girls Sabre and Epee Squad Champions. Coach Lisa is the co-founder of Forte Fencing Foundation.

Coach Jaime Ayala

Coach Jaime’s career started in 2008, a year after moving from Mexico, under Barb Lynch at Morris Hills. He has over 9 years of experience in the sport and is constantly learning more from a variety of international coaches in order to become a better athlete and coach. After graduating from MH, Coach Jaime continued his fencing career training under different coaches, including: Slava Danylov, Lisa Campi-Sapery, and Maestro Marcos Lucchetti, to name some. Coach Jaime is a competitive athlete in Mexico as well as in the US, and is currently training to obtain a spot on the Mexican National Team. He is also the Randolph HS Epee coach and has helped his students achieve different results, which include County Champions as well as a top 10 in NJ State Championship. This winter Coach Jaime will receive his B.A. in Applied Linguistics and Minor in Asian Studies from Montclair State University. He not only brings his language expertise to Forte Fencing, but an assortment of fencing knowledge.

Coach Mike Malecki

Coach Malecki is the founding coach of Morris Catholic's Fencing team. He has coached the team for 8 years. Coach Malecki specializes in the instruction of Foil and Epee. Before coaching at Morris Catholic, Mr. Malecki was a Fencer with West Virginia University's fencing club, started the Seton Hill University Fencing Program, and was a safety marshal for a historical fencing society and achieved an Award of Arms in that group. He is a standing member of the US Fencing Association and US Fencing Coach's Association and is training to become a US Fencing Referee.

Coach Keri Ecker

Coach Ecker started fencing at West Milford High School, and eventually moved on to fence at nationally ranked Temple University. After graduating from Temple, Coach Ecker started her coaching career as an assistant coach for Lakeland High School. For the past 6 seasons, Coach Ecker has been the head coach for Lakeland’s program, during which she has never failed to qualify a sabre squad for state championships, has produced teams that won two county championships, and has been named Coach of the Year for Passaic County twice, in both 2012 and 2014.

Coach Jackson Huemer

Fencing since he was 11 years old, Coach Jackson has grown up in the sport of fencing. After competing briefly in saber, he found his true weapon in epee. Coach Jackson started 3 years for the Columbia HS fencing team, winning 3 Cetrulo titles (2 epee, 1 overall), 2 state titles (1 Epee squad title, 1 overall state title) and finishing top 8 in the state individually his senior season. Recruited to fence for Drew University, Coach Jackson qualified for NCAA Regionals both seasons he competed in NCAA competition. After a brief time away from the sport, he returned to be the Bernards HS coach in 2015. Over three seasons, the epee squads have flourished, with the boys and girls combining for 2 Cetrulo titles, 2 State titles, and only once having a squad outside the top 8 in the state. Vice-President of the NJIFA, Coach Jackson has made a commitment to growing NJ fencing. He is currently competing on the national circuit, pursuing Senior Men’s Epee team ambitions.
